The last few weeks have been very exciting for our family. After many years of dreaming and planning, we officially closed on our lake home last week. We have been actively searching for a home on Wataugua for the last 2 years. Even on the busiest day, Wataugua lake is a peaceful retreat for us. Over half of the lake’s shoreline is Cherokee National Forest land that will never be developed and the views from the lake are breathtaking.
Finding the perfect retreat was not an easy process. Our boys are really starting to enjoy lake activities and the hubby and I both want them to spend their summers on the water. Wataugua isn’t far from us but the 2 hour round trip, carting all the lake gear, and arranging for meals was enough of an inconvenience to keep us away more than we liked. With so much national forest land it was very difficult to find a property that had the features we were looking for in our price range. We considered a huge variety of housing options. We looked at houseboats, express cruisers, RV’s, and land. A couple years ago we put a contract on a cute 600 square foot cottage but it did not work out. Size was not as important to us, we just wanted to be on the lake. We have finally found the perfect little fixer upper and we couldn’t be more thrilled! I thought it would be fun to document our renovations as we turn our little cabin into our dream get away. We have already begun the cleaning process and more pictures will be coming soon!
Congrats Erin and Micheal!! Can’t wait to see the progress. Renovating is so much fun. I’m sure that it’ll turn out amazing! Please say hi to everyone for me!
