Kitchen backsplash!

My birthday present and Christmas gift for the last two years has been the kitchen backsplash at our cabin. Every time the celebrations rolled around and my hubby asked what I wanted that was the answer. Well it is finally in! Hubby is meticulous and his tile work is great, but he hates doing it. We kept trying to hire outside contractors, but between COVID and our location it just never panned out.

Tile work is messy. We used 1/8 inch tile spacers.
We pulled out the old molded trim and added a more mission style to match the door trim we replaced in the rest of the house.
Cutting the tile around that upper molding required Hubby to make a template. Then he just made small cuts to his lines until he had perfect fits.
That ladder is holding a laser level to check that the lines are consistent across the top.
After all the tile was in, we had to let the mortar cure.
Dark grout was everywhere! We put down paper to protect the floors and taped off the wall to keep it from scratching/staining.
Finished! We had to replace all the almond outlets with white to match the new kitchen. I learned how to wire an outlet and switched them all out by myself! I used outlet extenders to bring the recessed outlets out to match the new depth of the tile. The world is out of extenders right now, but I was able to get some delivered from Ace Hardware.
It always amazes me how much small changes affect a space. No more ripped drywall visible from where we gutted the kitchen!

Let’s do a fun flashback!

We are working on the final touches in the basement and soon I’ll have an update on a big outside renovation!
